WHAT IS FTP?

FTP stands for Functional Threshold Power….it is a measure of fitness that represents the power (measured in watts) that you could theoretically maintain for about an hour. FTP is a standard, universally accepted, key performance indicator of your overall fitness level. It is a value that is widely used by endurance athletes, fitness coaches, and anyone who exercises to measure and track their fitness level.

HOW WILL WE MEASURE FTP?

Your FTP value is established by taking 95% of the average power you are able to output during a 20 minute “all-out” effort duration. The FTP class is 50 minutes long and will consist of 3 segments….a 20 minute warm up, the 20 min FTP test, followed by a 10 minute cool down.

WHY SHOULD I DO THE CLASS?

The February FTP class is the first in a series of FTP tests that we are planning to offer in 2018. This class can be used to establish your baseline. If you are on a fitness program, training for an race or event, or just want to see the effectiveness of your workout program – measuring your FTP gives feedback about how your fitness is tracking over time. Even if that’s not you…..how many times do you get the chance to take a test like this!? Try it, challenge yourself, and see what you can do! The Stages bikes and Performance IQ software, unique at the NRG Lab, means we are the only facility in the area that can offer their members this experience.
